This hillside neighborhood is sandwiched in between Manoa Valley to the west and Palolo Valley to the east. Kaimuki is south of Saint Louis Heights. Saint Louis Drive is the main thoroughfare into the area. Frank Street is another access road. Frank Street is a steep hill, be prepared to shift into first gear for the climb up.
Most of Saint Louis Heights' homes have nice views due to the area's steep terrain. City and ocean views at sunset are gorgeous.
On the H-1 freeway eastbound, take exit 25A. Bear left onto Waialae Avenue and make a left turn at Saint Louis Drive.
Westbound on H-1, take the Waialae Avenue offramp (exit 26) and stay on Waialae Avenue past Palolo Valley, then turn right at Saint Louis Drive.
Near the top of Saint Louis Heights is a park that seems to be virtually unknown by the general public. Drive up Saint Louis Drive and take a left at Ruth Place to visit Wa'ahila Ridge State Recreation Area. Here's a place in Honolulu where you can sit amongst the trees and listen to the birds sing, while watching the city life below. The park has trails suitable for hiking and mountain bike riding.
From Saint Louis Drive, turn left at Ruth Place to reach Wa'ahila State Recreation Area.

The Hawaiian name of this region is Kalaepohaku, which translates to "hill of rocks". The name Saint Louis was chosen based on Bishop Louis Maigret's patron saint, King Louis IX of France.
Saint Louis School and Chaminade University are both located the intersection of Waialae Avenue and 3rd Avenue. Mauka of Waialae Avenue, the road is actually named "College Walk."
In 1955, Saint Louis School eliminated the elementary grades and renamed itself Saint Louis High School. The campus expanded into post-secondary education with Chaminade Junior College. The college was renamed Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1977.
Chaminade University is named after Father William Joseph Chaminade. He was a priest during the French Revolution and he was the founder of the Society of Mary. Religious followers are called "Marists" or "Marianists" and this is the religion which guides the two schools.
The Kaminaka Drive side of Saint Louis Heights is sometimes referred to as Chaminade Terrace.
